It's the end of the golden age, where the rivers flowed with milk and honey and the sheep graced alongside the wolves.
The divine force, God if you want to call it that, intervened and attempted to create humans. And, as you might recall me saying, when divine forces intervene dimensions are created. This particular dimension had a mishap with the force that was supposed to create humans and instead spread the force out among the animals.
The animals evolved into what we would call humanoid, or "anthropomorphic", over several generations and the predators grew greedier and the prey grew more paranoid. Eventually the prey created societies then cities, with the predators following right after by creating hunting groups then castles. Over time the predators grew so greedy they no longer only wanted as much food they could get, they also wanted all the territory and wealth that existed. This lead to the art of war, which wasn't as 'civilized', if you can call war that, as in our world, it consisted of simply making weapons then charging the enemy with them at any time. Eventually there where only two forces still in what is called "The World War", the rest of the predators had surrendered to either side under the condition they wouldn't be attacked, but instead taxed, which I guess is equally bad for the economy. The two forces were the felines and the canines, with the foxes serving whichever side they personally felt strongest.
The felines won because they stroke during the chaos created after the Alpha of the canines had been assassinated. Now the other species are either hunted as food or serving as slaves, depending on how strong they are. The exception is the foxes, who are considered traitors by both sides and are poor slaves because they resort to trickery rather than doing hard labor, who mostly end up walking around in the wild, using traps to capture prey.
"The story starts in the equivalent of the middle ages, there exist abilities that may seem like magic but it's in fact just an individual with a unique ability, for example due to the rather common mutations, most of which end in dead but once in a while there'll be someone who evolve a ability never before seen in the species. The technology is slightly more advanced in general, but weapons are behind due to the more common use of natural weapons instead. Biology and chemistry is farther ahead since you can experiment on anything and anyone, assuming they are either slaves or has signed a contract, contrary to our No-experimenting-on-humans law
